Assessments
Formative Assessments - These assessments are used to measure progress towards mastery of academic standards throughout the course of instruction. Formative grades are entered in the online grading system using a percentage or a check-mark; however, they do not average into the student's report card grade. Examples of formative assessments include: pre-assessments, classwork, teacher observation, checklists, and exit slips.
Summative Assessments - Summative assessments are a formal measure of a student's mastery of grade level standards and will count for report card grades. Examples of summative assessments include: written assessments, presentations, and projects.

Retake Policy
Students who have not demonstrated proficiency (69% or below on summative assessments) will receive remediation and will be reassessed without parent request. Students who earn 70% or above on summative assessments will be reassessed per parent or student request. Reassessments will be administered when evidence of mastery is demonstrated based on formative assessments. Reassessment may or may not occur during the same grading period as when the original assessment was given. If the reassessment is given outside of the grading period, grades will be updated in FOCUS.
Parent Portal
We are fortunate enough to live in a day and age where you don't have to wait until report cards come out to see your child's progress. All guardians have access to our school's Parent Portal which allows you to instantly view your child's grades at any given time throughout the year. As we are doing our part by promptly entering grades, we encourage you to periodically check the Parent Portal and communicate academic concerns to your child's teacher. By doing this, we will be able to collaboratively discuss the different support options available in order to assist your child in becoming successful in his or her education.
